The deck of the Aurelia shuddered violently. Alarms wailed in a dissonant chorus of red lights, casting the bridge into a state of panic. Commander Sarah Mercer gripped the edge of her console, her knuckles white. "Report! What happened to the slipspace drive?"
"Complete containment failure in the primary drive core," Lieutenant Chen replied, his fingers flying across the holographic terminal. "We dropped out of warp early. We are nowhere near the Sol-III coordinates."
Sarah looked at the main viewport. The familiar stars of the colonized sectors were gone. In their place was a dense, glowing nebula of violet and gold dust, surrounded by thousands of tumbling asteroids. "Establish our location," she ordered. Chen hesitated, looking up with fear in his eyes. "Commander... the navigation computer doesn't recognize any of these constellations. We are completely off the charts."
